Luis Suarez’s World Cup has been uncharacteristically normal so far.

Uruguay finished top of Group A after three straight wins with Suarez scoring in wins against Saudi Arabia and Russia.

Of course, Suarez has previous when it comes to World Cups.

In 2010, he handled the ball on the goal-line to prevent Ghana’s Dominic Adiyiah from sending his side through to the semi-finals.

Ghana went onto miss the resulting penalty - something that Suarez celebrated wildly as he walked down the tunnel. Uruguay ultimately won on penalties.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Suarez outdid himself four years later.

During Uruguay’s clash with Italy, Suarez was caught biting defender Giorgio Chiellini in their group match.

It saw Suarez banned from all football activity for four months.

He can’t top that this year, surely?

Well, Jamie Carragher dedicated his Friday Telegraph column to his former teammate with the headline: “Forget his dark past – this is Luis Suarez's chance for World Cup redemption.”

Included in Carragher’s column are interesting tidbits about exactly what it’s like to play alongside Suarez.

And the Liverpool legend explained just how much he loved playing football - so much so that he refused to have a rest day after matches.

“Such was Suarez’s passion he would refuse two-day recovery sessions after a match,” Carragher explained. If the first team did not train as usual, he would join the reserves rather than head to the gym or for physiotherapy.

"Not once while we were playing, or even in year after my departure, did I ever see or hear of Suarez missing a session or game due to slight injury.

“He would need a broken bone to miss anything, and even then would probably argue with the doctor about his fitness.

"He can not live without kicking a football, and he plays every minute like it is the most important of his life.”

That just about sums Suarez up.

Sometimes that passion goes a bit too far and Suarez ends up getting in a lot of trouble. But if he can curb that passion during this World Cup, he and Uruguay could go very deep in the competition.
