Despite not stepping foot in the Octagon since November 2016, Conor McGregor is still the most talked about UFC fighter on the roster.

Numerous reports are suggesting that he's ready to make a huge return to the cage later this year, but there are a few things standing in his way.

A COURT HEARING

First, he has to face the music following his actions at the UFC 223 media day back in April, when he attacked a bus full of fighters.

He's been charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief - and will appear in court on July 26.

Following that business, he still needs to find and negotiate with an opponent before he can confirm his return.

Of course, that's not likely to be very hard at all, given how many people want to fight "Notorious".

NUMBER ONE OPPONENT

At the front of that line is Khabib Nurmagomedov, the man McGregor was targeting with his bus attack.

The Russian is the current UFC Lightweight Champion, so if the Irishman is allowed to make his return to the sport, it's unlikely he'd want to fight anyone else.

However, he's been away for so long and Nurmagomedov is at the top of his game right now, so if the two do get into the Octagon, it will definitely be a special occasion.

Despite not challenging since UFC 205, McGregor's coach thinks his fighter has enough to beat The Eagle, or in fact, anyone else on the roster.

HOW MCGREGOR CAN WIN ANY FIGHT

Nurmagomedov isn't Conor's only choice for his return fight - he has plenty of other options, including a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz, or a super fight against Georges St-Pierre.

Whoever he chooses though, coach Owen Roddy believes McGregor would be able to overcome any of them - and for good reason too, as he explains.

"[GSP] is one of the best to ever do it. He has a tricky code to crack, most definitely," Roddy said, per MMAMania.

"Same with Khabib, that style is [tricky], but you can come up with plans to beat them. Nobody is perfect. There are flaws in everyone’s game.

"There are flaws in Khabib’s game and there are flaws in GSP’s game."

WHAT CONOR DOES BEST

Roddy went on to argue that "Notorious" has an advantage over anyone else because he's so good at certain things inside the Octagon.

"They both do what they do really well, but at the end of the day, for me, what Conor has over all of them is he’s so good at landing shots," the coach continued.

"He lands a shot within the first minute and 99 percent of people can’t take it. In those small gloves, he is going to catch you.

"He’s going to catch you on the chin or on the temple and there are very few people who can deal with that."
