The World Cup is the biggest event in football and, arguably, all of sport, driving infectious passion and a will to win like no other.Players from around the world give it their all to try and take home the grandest prize there is.There will be tears, there will be drama, and there will be unbridled joy. This was all on show as France faced Argentina for a place in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday - a game that will be remembered for years to come. Both teams gave all they could with what they had in a game that featured two very special strikes from Angel di Maria and Benjamin Pavard. Both goals will be in the running for the best of the tournament but the real talking point was the arrival on the international stage of Kylian Mbappe, who upstaged Lionel Messi to score the two goals that sent France through. Each side knew what they had to do to win, be it pieces of incredible skill, intense work ethic, focused discipline...Or acts of petulance to try and wind up your opponent.Argentina defender Nicolas Otamendi opted for the latter when, just after the half-hour mark, he decided to squirt Olivier Giroud with a water bottle.Check out the moment below:Perhaps that's overly cynical - maybe he just completely missed his mouth? Fans on Twitter seem to disagree.

It's such a childish thing to do in a World Cup knockout game that you can't help but admire Otamendi for it - although the real star is the referee who issues out immediate justice by taking the bottle and squirting the Argentine back.

They say that the biggest games are decided by the smallest details and while it's unlikely that squirting Giroud with water played an integral role in the game, it is worth noting that he didn't play very well afterwards.

That's either a coincidence or further evidence that the elite players play a different game to the rest of us.
