The obvious narrative from Portugal's last-16 defeat to Uruguay was that it signalled the end of Cristiano Ronaldo's hopes of winning a World Cup.The same can be said of a number of his team-mates, though, with Rui Patricio, Jose Fonte, and Pepe also all in their thirties.Pepe at least went out with a bang, his towering header in the 55th minute temporarily threatening to derail Uruguay's path to the quarter-finals.The centre-back's heroics were ultimately overshadowed by the brilliance of Edinson Cavani. The Paris Saint-Germain striker got his head on the end of a fine cross from Luis Suarez for the opening goal, before slicing home a superbly-taken winner. In light of Saturday's results, which also saw Lionel Messi's Argentina crash out to France, football fans are coming to terms with the fact that the two greatest players of our era will never have been able to lift the most important trophy of them all. However, it's fair to say that one punter will not care one bit about CR7's struggles for Portugal as he'll have had his eyes firmly fixed on Pepe and Cavani.

Hats off to this guy...

As revealed by ODDSBible, the lucky fan in question lumped £20 on both players to score a header, which was priced at 500/1.

Including his stake, that won him a very tidy sum of £10,020.

Very well played, sir.

This World Cup hasn't necessarily been ideal for those partial to a cheeky bet.

Russia 2018 has offered up plenty of shocks so far, with Germany crashing out in the group stages, Morocco holding Spain, and Iceland drawing with Argentina among the biggest upsets so far.

It was very hard to call how Uruguay's tie with Portugal would turn out and many will have been backing the European champions, not least because of Ronaldo's threat.

But what do we know? It's hard to feel genuinely happy and not a tad bitter when someone actually knows how to bet, but hats off for a very decent prediction here.
