The 2018 FIFA World Cup has been nothing short of glorious.

In a tournament wracked with drama, we have been treated to what feels like an upset a day, saying good-bye to some of the pre-tournament favourites far sooner than we could’ve expected.

Germany were the biggest casualty of the group stages, crashing to an embarrassing loss to South Korea while the likes of Argentina and Portugal just scraped through their own respective groups.

However, that is as good as it would get for both those sides as the South Americans were dumped out by a Kylian Mbappe inspired France and Portugal were unable to crack the Uruguayan code.

That meant that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo - two of the greatest players of all-time - would have to watch the rest of the Russian showpiece from home.

To add to the already incredible drama, Spain were then knocked out in a nerve-wracking penalty shootout with the host nation, despite dominating the game in normal and extra time.

We are only halfway through the Round of 16 and already this tournament has served up more than we could have ever asked for.

On top of it all, the tournament has been littered with some simply jaw-dropping goals and they just seem to keep getting better.

However, when you consider the possible goal of the tournament contenders, Cristiano Ronaldo’s blistering free-kick against Spain will be right up there.

Ronaldo’s Portugal side were staring down the barrel of an opening game defeat when the five-time Balon d’Or winner stepped up and drilled the ball past David De Gea in the dying seconds of the game.

The game ended 3-3 and ultimately proved to be the difference between the 2016 European champions escaping their group and an early exit.

The goal has probably been replayed millions of times and it just doesn’t get old.

However, a video that has been doing the rounds on social media today has only gone and made Ronaldo’s effort even more fun to watch after the original commentary was replaced by golfing commentary.

As a bonus, the creators added a shot of Tiger Woods draining a putt with football commentary in the background.
