With negotiations seemingly having reached a standstill between the Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder camps, an online boxing encyclopedia has released some revealing statistics about both fighters.

As the back and forth continues between camps, the numbers show that Joshua has the upper edge, and you know what they say, numbers don’t lie.

AJ’s quest to be the unified world champion has seemed to hit a brick wall, as the latest word on the continuing saga is that negotiations have fallen through.

The Bronze Bomber has been attacking the Watford man relentlessly on social media, placing the blame on the AJ’s camp.

Joshua’s outspoken promoter Eddie Hearn, on the other hand, has refuted these claims and instead blames the American’s camp for the delay in the negotiations.

Truth be told, in the fight industry, you never really know the real story.

As boxing fans, however, all there is to do is to analyse both fighters and salivate even more at the prospect of these two heavyweight titans facing in the ring.

Fortunately, Boxstat.co, an online boxing encyclopaedia, released statistics on both fighters, allowing the boxing world to dissect the match-up even more.

A study of the numbers reveals that Joshua has the edge over Wilder when you consider all the stats.

Despite Joshua being knocked down once in his career in that fight against Wladimir Klitschko, and Wilder never hitting the canvas in his 40-fight career, the numbers show that Joshua actually has the stronger chin with boxstat rating it at 83% compared to Wilder’s 82%.

This can be attributed to a popular criticism of Wilder from the boxing world; a lack of big name fights.

The stats show that Joshua's opponents average a power puncher rating of 63.2%, compared to 60% by Wilder's, while the men AJ has beaten are also better at taking punches with an average of 69.4% compared to 62.3.

It is notable, however, that Wilder is seen as the more powerful puncher with a rating of 89% compared to AJ’s rating of 84%.

However, the lack of big name fights means that Wilder has yet to really prove himself in the big stage, while Joshua has beaten the best of the best in his weight class.

With Hearn tweeting yesterday that he is on his way to the USA, let us hope he finally gets an agreement done and we can all stop relying on stats and actually watch these two behemoths of their sport go at it in the ring!
