Denmark may have exited the World Cup on Sunday but the defeat to Croatia only enhanced Kasper Schmeichel's growing reputation. Now 31 years old, the Leicester City goalkeeper made a number of outstanding blocks and even denied Luka Modric from the penalty spot in the 116th minute. He made a further two saves in the penalty shootout but was helpless as three of his teammates missed, giving Croatia passage into the quarter-finals."Of course we let him down," said Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen, who took Denmark's first penalty but missed."When a goalkeeper saves two penalties [in a shootout] you have to win, because you must then score your own penalties."But that is easier said than done and I can understand if Kasper is disappointed because he played a very good match."Schmeichel also received praise from a certain Gary Neville, with the former right-back lauding his "big personality".

SCHMEICHEL THE 'HERO'

"Kasper Schmeichel was big," said Neville on ITV. "He has got a personality. It was his moment, he won it.

"Just that movement to the right, that sway with the shoulders and whether that kids Modric... One of the things you need, to be a goalkeeper, is a huge personality. He has one."

Rumour has it Chelsea and AS Roma are now interested in signing Schmeichel this summer, yet some bookmakers have Liverpool as favourites for his signature.

So is there actually any interest from Liverpool? Well, the Daily Mail's Dominic King has cleared up any confusion.

According to King, Schmeichel is NOT on Jurgen Klopp's radar, despite the fact he's on the lookout for a new goalkeeper this summer. Sorry, Liverpool fans.

"Some bookmakers have Liverpool as favourites to sign Kasper Schmeichel. Don't be looking to take the odds," he wrote. "Good keeper but he's not on Liverpool's radar."

Schmeichel would arguably be an upgrade on both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, so perhaps Klopp should be interested in the Dane.
