Doug Pederson's bet with Sean Payton means the Eagles can do something not normally allowed on week 11

Ahead of the 2018 season, the NFL released their “Top 100” – ranking the best football players in the league.

Unsurprisingly, Tom Brady came top of that list – and was followed closely by Antonio Brown,  Carson Wentz, Julio Jones and Le’Veon Bell, who made the up the top five.

But it’s not all about the players.

The best players need the best coaches – and after the league ranked their best on the field, the NFL’s official website has now compiled a list of those who stand on the sideline.

Again, it’s the New England Patriots who top this one – with coach Bill Belichick taking first place.

But we’re going to be concentrating on two other names in the top 10 – Sean Payton and Doug Pederson.

They were ranked in spots two and eight respectively – but that may have been a little harsh on the Philadelphia Eagles HC.

Surely, a Super Bowl win last season should put him much higher in the list? But apparently not.

Actually, Pederson probably won’t be all to upset with his ranking – because he’s just pulled off another big win – against Payton.

Back in March, the NFL held their annual coaches’ golf outing – and Pederson was paired with Payton for it.

The two coaches decided to make things a lot more fun by placing a few unique wagers on their round – and the first determined which team would wear their home colours in week 11.

That game is being played in New Orleans, but after what ESPN described as “an intense three-hole carryover” it was the Eagles head coach who won.

His win means Philadelphia will be sporting their home green jersey’s at the Superdome in November – meaning the Saints will have to play at home in white.

Explaining their bet, Pederson revealed that the golf meet “got those competitive juices to start flowing” and that they even came up with some other wagers.

Apparently, they joked about making the other team kick off from the 15-yard line – but the loser would have had real trouble explaining that one to their team’s owner.

In fact, with the Saints having to wear their away colours at home, Payton may struggle to justify that bet alone.

“Well, how am I gonna explain this?” he asked.

“We’re just gonna wear color-rush white or something… But it made it a little bit more fun.”
