Brazil are looking like the team to beat in the World Cup this year.

While a number of their rivals have faltered, Tite's side look as if they are beginning to get into their stride.

The South Americans convincingly beat Mexico 2-0 on Mexico to seal their progression to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Neymar broke the deadlock in the second-half, before Roberto Firmino sealed the victory with a late strike.

Firmino has played second fiddle to Gabriel Jesus for much of the tournament, but he scored against Mexico within just minutes of entering the field.

The Liverpool forward tapped home from close range after Neymar's effort has been well saved by Guillermo Ochoa.

Brazilian legend Ronaldo was commentating on the game for Globo, and you would expect him to be happy that Firmino made an instant impact.

But instead of raving about the impact of the 26-year-old, Ronaldo played down his impact and stated he was lucky for his goal.

He said, per Liverpool Echo: "The game was almost decided [when Firmino came on].

"And he was very lucky by following up Neymar. But of course he has a lot of talent."

Bit odd, right? Firmino made an instant impact for his side and sent them through to the quarter-finals.

You could argue that his goal was fortunate, but an important part of a forward's game is their positioning, and Firmino was in the right place at the right time as Neymar's effort was saved.

Ronaldo should be appreciative of that given he was a striker himself. There could be a reason for his comments, however.

There is much debate whether Firmino should start for Brazil in place of Jesus, who has failed to perform at this World Cup so far.

But Ronaldo is involved in the sports marketing company that manages Jesus, meaning naturally, he will be more supportive of him.

Nevertheless, his comments about Firmino can still be judged to be harsh, and according to a report from Esporte, he has angered many in Brazil.

And Esporte columnist Mauricio Stycer labelled the 2002 World Cup winner's dual role as a representative of Jesus and co-commentator as a conflict of interest.

Doesn't seem as if Ronaldo is very popular in Brazil at this current time.
