On September 15, Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will meet in their long-awaited rematch at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The first meeting between the pair came in September last year - but that bout was surrounded by controversy.

CANELO VS GGG I

The result of their first fight was a split draw - now, that was arguably the right outcome.

However, there was one judge's scorecard that appeared to be so wrong in the aftermath of the match.

Adalaide Byrd scored the match 118–110 in favour of Alvarez, much to the confusion of many fans and analysts.

The overall opinion was that GGG may have slightly edged the bout - not Canelo. The draw was justified, but Byrd scoring so highly in Alvarez's favour was not.

SCHEDULED REMATCH

Because of the controversy, a rematch was scheduled for May 5, 2018 - but that never happened, due to Canelo's suspension.

The Mexican was retroactively suspended for six months from February after failing a drug test, meaning he's out of action until August.

But once that ban lapses, he'll finally be able to step back into the ring against GGG.

PRE-MATCH TALK

Unsurprisingly, there's been a lot of talk ahead of the huge bout - there always is in these kinds of situations.

Because these two have met before, many of the words have been pretty personal - as the two fighters already know each other quite well.

Just last month, Golovkin suggested that Canelo isn't a "true warrior", suggesting that he did more running than fighting last time out.

In fact, he even went as far as saying that his opponent is not like a "Mexican fighter" or a "true champion" because of his style in the ring.

CANELO RESPONDS

Those comments appear to have ticked Alvarez off - and he's hit back with a chilling warning, suggesting that he's more than ready to fight this time.

"No doubt this will be a better fight," Canelo told ESPN, per BoxingNews24

"The desire to tear his head off is so big, and it will be much better."

That's a pretty clear message from Alvarez, who's looking to go out and make a statement to GGG  in September.
