England have won a World Cup penalty shootout. Before Tuesday night, nobody had ever been able to say that. But after prevailing over Colombia to reach the quarter-final of the competition, it’s finally happened. The Three Lions were mere seconds from a straightforward 90-minute win before Yerry Mina cancelled out Harry Kane’s penalty in injury-time.As so often, the 30 minutes in extra-time were uneventful and it always looked as though it was heading for penalties. And it seemed England’s penalty curse was set to continue when Jordan Henderson - the third spot-kick taker - saw his penalty saved by David Ospina. It left Mateus Uribe the chance to give Colombia match point. But he smashed it against the crossbar, resulting in Kieran Trippier levelling the scores.Carlos Bacca then had his penalty saved by Jordan Pickford, handing Eric Dier the chance to win to send England through to the last-eight.Phew.Henderson may have missed his kick but Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Trippier and Dier came to his rescue with brilliant penalties. But many England fans were asking why Jamie Vardy didn’t take one.Vardy is a regular penalty taker and came on in the 88th-minute. Surely he was an ideal candidate to take one. However, replays of England’s celebrations might explain why he didn’t take one.As Dier secured England’s win, all the players stood on the halfway line ran to mob him and Pickford.

VARDY'S REACTION WAS VERY NOTICEABLE

And Vardy could be seen holding his groin as he ran.

Was he injured?

ENGLAND FANS REACT

That’s what hundreds of England fans think is the case.

It certainly is a worry if the striker has injured his groin.

With England’s quarter-final against Sweden just three days away, it’s looking very unlikely Vardy will play any part if he actually has injured his groin.

We wait for confirmation on Vardy’s injury but we hope it’s nothing too serious…
