It's been almost two months since the Premier League season ended and yet Antonio Conte's future at Chelsea is still uncertain.

'Will he stay or will he go?' is the question on Chelsea fans' lips at the moment and it's expected a decision will be made once the World Cup finishes.

But for now Conte remains the manager at Stamford Bridge, despite captain Gary Cahill asking for a final decision to be made sooner rather than later back in May.

"Certainly we've felt the sense of uncertainty," said Cahill after the FA Cup final win over Manchester United. "That is obvious to everybody in the last few months.

"What I can say is that the players do not have any impact on that situation. I am sure, if I was a guessing man, that the club and manager will have spoken. Let's see.

"I am sure the manager will make the best decision for himself and his family. I am sure the club will make the best decision what they feel."

Winning the FA Cup saved Chelsea and Conte's season, there are no two ways about it, but there are some big problems to attend to at Stamford Bridge.

THE CONTE DILEMMA

Conte has clashed with the Blues' board numerous times, to the point where something has to give. There's an underlying sense of awkwardness and tension in west London.

And it seems those issues have already resurfaced after what Conte emailed his players about pre-season training.

According to the Times: "A member of Chelsea's technical staff emailed the players who have not been at the World Cup asking them to report to the club's training ground on Saturday and Sunday for fitness tests.

"Conte [responded] by saying that he is still the manager and does not want the players back until next Monday.

"[Conte] has spent the last few weeks while on holiday in southern Italy planning a tough pre-season campaign for the players.

"He is due back in London this weekend and plans to hold his first training session next Monday, if he has not been sacked."

Chelsea really are an absolute mess at the moment - no one seems to know what's going on at the club.

What does seem clear, though, is that we will finally know whether Conte has a job at Chelsea or not this time next week.
