The Los Angeles Lakers can be considered the big winners in this summer's free agency after landing LeBron James. The King agreed to sign a four-year, $153.3 million deal to join LA and end his second stint with his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers.Since pulling off the major coup of adding the best player in the world to their ranks, the Lakers have been hard at work constructing a solid roster around James. But the players they've agreed to bring in have raised a lot of eyebrows.

Nobody saw this coming

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee and Rajon Rondo will all be joining on one-year deals.

Of the quartet, only the Rondo signing is being viewed as a shrewd move as it's fair to say the remaining trio are unpredictable.

The veteran enjoyed a resurgence with the New Orleans Pelicans last season and played some of his best basketball in years.

He did what he does best and once again showed that he can still be an elite playmaker in the league as he averaged 8.2 assists per game.

The 32-year-old played an important role in helping the Pelicans secure a playoff spot.

He raised his level of production in the postseason like he normally does by averaging 10.3 points, 12.2 assists, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game as they reached the second round.

Old rivals reacquainted

Rondo had numerous playoff battles in the past with LeBron during his time with the Boston Celtics and seeing them become teammates surprised some people.

But the point guard was apparently extremely keen to play alongside LBJ and made a commitment to sign for the Lakers if they secured the superstar.

That's according to his former teammate and current ESPN analyst Ryan Hollins.

Appearing on an episode of First Take, he said: “He told me if LeBron goes to LA, he’s going to LA.”

Rondo is viewed as one of the smartest players in the game and that should see him be a good fit alongside James.

When it became clear that the four-time MVP was taking his talents to Tinseltown, Rondo couldn't pass up the opportunity to team up with him and compete for a championship again.

It's unclear what role he'll fulfil on the team with question marks now being raised about Lonzo Ball's future with the Lakers.

But whether he's a starter or a reserve, the former All-Star and NBA champion can have a huge impact on this young team.
