This weekend at UFC 226, one of the biggest MMA fights of the year will take place as Stipe Miocic will face Daniel Cormier inside the Octagon in a UFC superfight.

The main event clash will see the UFC Heavyweight Champion defend his title against the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion in what is guaranteed to be a great fight.

However, this superfight has been in the works for longer than what some UFC fans might realize.

Two days

In fact, Miocic was asked if he wanted to fight against Cormier two days before he had even fought against Francis Ngannou at UFC 220 in January earlier this year.

As you would expect, he was pretty annoyed that he got asked so close to him fighting against someone else.

According to MMA Fighting, the UFC heavyweight champion said Monday at a media lunch: “I told them, ‘shut up.' I got more things to worry about.”

Eventually, the fight did come together, but even now, almost six months later, Miocic is angry about how it all unfolded.

He's annoyed that the UFC called him before the fight with Ngannou, who had been hyped as the hardest puncher in MMA history, about a potential next title defense.

Miocic said: “It had nothing to do with Cormier. Dude, leave me alone — I’m fighting in two days. You’re talking about how I’m gonna get hit by the Ford Escort power and you’re gonna come at me with this?”

It's quite odd that UFC would do this to one of their most valuable assets in their entire promotion. UFC fans can be glad though that Miocic was still up for a fight against Cormier after he dealt with Ngannou.

There's more than just the UFC Heavyweight title on the line in this fight, as DC has a chance to enter the history books if he wins this Saturday.

If he beats Miocic on July 7, he will become the second fighter in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously, the first being former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
