The World Cup might be reaching a climax but players that weren’t involved in the competition are starting to return to their clubs ahead of the new season. That will include a certain Cesc Fabregas.Fabregas has been seen on BBC’s coverage of the World Cup this summer and the midfielder has been rather brilliant in his new role.Of course, he would have preferred to be playing for Spain and it seems La Roja actually needed him.Spain crashed out at the last-16 stage after losing to hosts Russia on penalties.Fabregas could only watch on in the BBC studio and hasn’t been seen since. That’s because he’s since returned to Chelsea for pre-season training as he prepares for the new campaign. It’s going to be a very interesting season at Stamford Bridge. There’s still doubt over the future of manager Antonio Conte, while the likes of N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard are being linked with big-money moves away from the club.Of course, without Champions League football next season, it could prove difficult for the west London club to keep hold of their very best players next season.Chelsea will start the season in Europe’s lesser competition for the first time since they played in the UEFA Cup in the 2002/03 season. And it seems Fabregas is feeling a bit sad about that.On Thursday afternoon, the Europa League’s official Twitter account started following him.And the 31-year-old sent a rather brilliant tweet in response.

FABREGAS RESPONDS TO EUROPA LEAGUE ON TWITTER

He wrote: “It took them 15 years but finally I allowed them to follow me…”

Fifteen years of professional football for Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea and now Fabregas will experience the Europa League for the very first time.

He’ll be hoping the Europa League’s official Twitter page stop following him come next season and that he’ll be back in the Champions League once again.
