Cristiano Ronaldo looks as if he will not be a Real Madrid player much longer.

The Portuguese forward has spent nine successful seasons at Los Blancos, where he has made 438 appearances and scored an incredible 450 goals.

But Ronaldo has become dismayed with his contract situation at Real Madrid.

After falling behind Neymar and Lionel Messi in terms of wages, Ronaldo demanded a new contract that saw him reinstalled as the world's highest paid player.

Real Madrid refused, and it seems the 33-year-old now has his heart set on a move away.

Juventus have emerged as front-runners for his signature in what would be a very surprising move. It is believed they have made an £88m move for Ronaldo.

But what about Manchester United?

Ronaldo's former club have tried to re-sign him on multiple occasions in the past, only for Ronaldo to sign a new contract with Los Blancos.

But this summer is most likely their best opportunity yet to get the former Old Trafford favourite back to the club.

And it seems Juventus' bid for Ronaldo has caused Man United to react.

The Sun report that as a result of the bid, Man United are now 'crunching the numbers' to beat Juventus in the chase for Cristiano Ronaldo.

They are not fazed by Ronaldo's transfer fee or his salary, and are willing to offer him a three-year-deal worth more than £500,000-a-week.

Man United chiefs are also not worried by Ronaldo’s poor relationship with Jose Mourinho during their time together at Real.

The report goes on to state that Woodward believes that to try and rival the Premier League supremacy of Manchester City, Mourinho needs an iconic figure that would have as big an impact on the pitch as he would have with shirt sales and sponsorship deals.

Ronaldo, of course, would fit that bill more than any other footballer in the world.

He may now be 33 years old, but he remains the greatest goalscorer in world football.

The £88 million fee that is being touted sounds big for a man of his age, but the income he will generate means that sum will be recuperated in a short space of time.

Woodward and his board do not see any reason why they should not press ahead with discussions with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes - who also represents Mourinho.

Massive news. Man United have the financial power to make a move for Ronaldo, and they could well be preparing an offer to bring him back to the club.

It is yet to be seen whether Ronaldo will prefer a move back to United or a fresh challenge in Italy with Juventus.

But it seems that if Old Trafford is his preferred destination, he will be welcomed back there with open arms.
