Life on Monday Night RAW seems to be slightly rough for Roman Reigns. He'd be ecstatic with the prominent position he's nailed down on the red brand, but the fact that the fans still haven't universally embraced him could be eating away at him quietly.

HEEL TURN

Then again, The Big Dog has reiterated time and time again that as long as he gets any sort of reaction, he's doing his job perfectly.

The problem he has, however, is that the fans don't want him to be their face of the company and instead, they'd prefer it if he was occupying the role of an out-and-out heel.

Plenty of reports continue to emerge of how the WWE plans on using the former Shield member, with the most recent being that they might use him as a 'cool heel' moving forward.

Although it sounds like a fantastic idea on paper, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has dished out a dose of simple reality on why the idea is more difficult than a simple character change.

A user on Twitter posed the question to Meltzer on Twitter, asking if turning a superstar from a face to a heel can affect merchandise sales, and whether or not it could be one of the reasons Vince McMahon isn't pulling the trigger on a heel turn.

MERCHANDISE

During his response, Meltzer claimed that there's usually a massive shift in merchandise sales most of the time.

He tweeted: "Yes, usually a huge negative effect, not always, but most of the time."

Merchandise is a considerable factor in the WWE.

Last year, the Wrestling Observer highlighted that Reigns was selling more merchandise than any full-time superstar in the WWE.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Reigns was sitting in the top three for merchandise sales, and it's why the decision was made to continue using him as a protagonist - even though fans want the character change.

With John Cena still far ahead as the top merchandise seller, it was revealed that Reigns and AJ Styles were battling it out for the number two spot after being neck and neck.

Recently, even The Miz jumped to Reigns' defence.

When asked how he'd book Reigns, he revealed that he wouldn't change one thing and it's all because he sells the most merchandise out of anyone - so he's doing something right.
