Real Madrid are facing the prospect of losing Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

Although rumours of a Ronaldo departure arrive on an annual basis, it seems Ronaldo has never been closer than this to turning his back on the Bernabeu.

Juventus are the team looking to secure his signature, sensationally beating the likes of Manchester United and Paris-Saint Germain to the front of the queue this week.

In fact, such is the speculation around Ronaldo potentially moving to Turin that the club have been forced to release a business statement on Friday afternoon.

The Old Lady informed: "After the request from CONSOB related to the news published recently on media outlets, Juventus Football Club S.p.A is keen to remind that during the transfer season the club is evaluating several opportunities and will publish adequate information as prescribed by the law."

Ronaldo closing in on Juve switch

The next few days will be crucial in deciding whether or not Ronaldo makes one of the biggest transfers of modern football.

And while football fans can start to speculate about how Ronaldo will fare in Serie A, it's perhaps more interesting to wonder how Real Madrid will react to the situation.

Los Blancos certainly have their fair share of world-class players but they owe a great deal of their recent success on the pitch and business-wise off the pitch, to Ronaldo.

Real Madrid's replacement plan

The obvious reaction would be to seek a similarly influential player, even if that's easier said than done.

According to Marca, that's exactly their plan and the news that Ronaldo is closing in on a Juventus transfer has seen them 'reactive' their interest in Neymar.

The Spanish club have held a quiet interest in the Paris Saint-Germain forward for sometime now yet the Ronaldo situation will see a sharp resurgence in their tracking of the player.

It is believed to be dream of Florentino Perez to bring Neymar to Real Madrid.

The very possibility of Neymar replacing Ronaldo is believed to be sustained moral at the Bernabeu and somewhat tempering the thought of losing their star man.

However, a move for the 26-year-old isn't without its difficulties and Paris Saint-Germain would prove tough negotiators after signing the player just one year ago.

There are genuine fears that the billionaire owners in Paris may simply refuse to discuss a move, even if Neymar was interested in the possibility.

Given the hole Ronaldo would leave at Real Madrid, though, it's likely the club would go all out for Neymar with Kylian Mbappe the only apparent alternative.

It's going to be a hectic week in the Spanish capital, that's for sure.
