Brazil have failed to reach a World Cup semi-final for the first time since 1990.That year, it was Argentina who knocked them out in the last-16, but this time, it was yet another European opponent that downed the Selecao.Belgium defeated Tite's side 2-1 in Kazan as a Fernandinho own goal and Kevin De Bruyne's wonder-strike booked their plane ticket home.It could have been different had Neymar's superb effort not been thwarted by Thibaut Courtois in the final seconds of the game. However, the Chelsea man was there to hand Brazil's talisman one of the worst results of his career. He was the hope of the nation, but his final game at the 2018 World Cup will be remembered for yet more diving.Twice, Neymar went down far too easily, attracting yet more criticism from those in the BBC studio.Regular pundit Alan Shearer has been the 26-year-old's biggest critic, but fans think the Newcastle legend took it a bit too far on Friday evening.Shearer believed that VAR's decision not to award Gabriel Jesus a penalty after Vincent Kompany's challenge was due to Neymar's previous antics in the game.

After watching a replay of Neymar's dive, he said: "This is the reason why, I think, they didn't get the call from VAR five or ten minutes later, because of that.

"When the guys are looking at this and any dodgy of iffy decision that has to be made, is going to go against Brazil because of that.

"That does not help his team tonight because of those actions there, that blatant dive, trying to cheat.

"Now, five minutes later there's a tight, close call on VAR and it goes against him and it goes against his team."

So, Neymar's dive influenced a future decision? Perhaps a bit far and fans on Twitter certainly thought so.

FANS REACT

His comments do feel as if they're based on an agenda against Neymar.

Of course, it's logical that the referee could fall foul to it in the heat of the moment, but for VAR to do the same would be ludicrous.
