With the majority of eyes all on the Russia World Cup this summer, the tennis showcase Wimbledon has sadly taken a bit of a backseat since it's return on Monday.

Due to the grass court Grand Slam being played every year, and the World Cup only coming round once every four, it's somewhat understandable that more eyes have been glued to Russia than they have to SW19.

However, those who have been keeping track of both, or those who are solely focused on the tennis, will have heard what Marion Bartoli had to say about both Nick Kyrgios and Gael Monfils earlier in the week.

Speaking on BBC as part of their extensive coverage of the tournament, Bartoli went in on the two controversial characters, calling them both 'childlike' and 'pathetic'.

Bartoli, who won Wimbledon before retiring and then coming back to the sport, was asked about the duo and whether they could possibly win a Grand Slam in the near future.

An honest question, which was met by an even more honest answer from the former champion.

It's well known that Monfils and Kyrgios have the natural ability to contend for Grand Slams, but the big question is do they have the attitude?

Bartoli doesn't think so clearly, and she let the world know.

However, after listening to the former pro go in on them, both Kyrgios and Monfils have now responded to Bartoli, and it's safe to say neither really care what she thinks.

After being informed about what Bartoli had said, Monfils said: "You know, it is easy to criticise people when you don't know them. So, I won't even pay any attention about it."

The Frenchman showing he does have a sensible side then and refusing to get involved with Bartoli's jibes.

As for Kyrgios, it was slightly different.

He posted on Instagram: "Yesterday, Marion Bartoli had to say some nice things about Gael Monfils and myself...

"They’re ‘pathetic, children, they can’t become men, wasting their life.'

"Who are you to judge the way we go about things? Who are you to tell us how to do things, when you have no idea what we've been through?

"Stop assuming you know what’s best for others when you think you’ve had a little success...We get it, we know you have to remain relevant, but I’ll give you a heads up, we don’t care what you have to say."

Ouch.
