Dundee United have rejected a bid from Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan for winger Craig Conway.

The Tannadice club had been expecting the bid from the npower Championship club, who had earlier confirmed their interest by email.

However, a spokesman for United said: "We have received a formal bid from Middlesbrough late this afternoon for Craig Conway, but it did not meet the club's valuation of the player."

While the United spokesman would not reveal the size of fee Middlesbrough offered, it has been reported that the Tayside club are looking for around £1.2million for the player, signed from Ayr United in June 2006.
