Harry Maguire has been one of the most unlikely heroes for England at the World Cup.

Solid performance after solid performance has seen the 25-year-old become a fan favourite and against Sweden his popularity reached new heights.

Maguire was a rock and he even opened the scoring for England with a powerful header from Ashley Young's corner.

Everyone has been raving about the Leicester City man, with Rio Ferdinand describing him as a "graceful man mountain".

"Harry Maguire needs special mention," said Ferdinand. "In both boxes he was immense. He's a man mountain, but with the ball at his feet he's graceful as well.

"Today he became an integral member of the team. He's so important."

It's been a meteoric rise for Maguire over the past four years. He joined Hull City for £2.5m in 2014 and then earned a £12m move to Leicester last summer.

ZERO TO HERO

An England debut soon followed, with Southgate starting the centre-back for England's 1-0 win over Lithuania on October 8.

It's been onwards and upwards ever since then and now Peter Crouch has perfectly summed up Maguire's rise from Championship defender to World Cup semi-finalist.

"One man who did [hit the target] was Harry Maguire and I can't let this column pass without mentioning him," Crouch wrote for the Daily Mail.

"It's like watching one of those unsigned bands make it big after you saw them play a tiny little gig somewhere. You walk away and deep down you know, one day, people will rave about them.

"That's how it is with Harry. He may not look like a footballer but my, can he play. He's been absolutely brilliant, as have all the squad."

Nailed it. Maguire has a huge future ahead of him and like Crouch said, he's emerged out of nowhere like an unsigned band.

Reach next Sunday's World Cup final and there's every chance Maguire could earn himself a massive move to one of the Premier League's giants this summer.
