The World Cup certainly didn't go to plan for Brazil and Neymar.

Paris Saint-Germain's €222m superstar returned to competitive action for the first time in three months for the tournament after sustaining a serious foot injury.

His comeback was supposed to propel Tite's impressive Selecao side to their sixth World Cup trophy, but it all went wrong.

Brazil were eliminated by Belgium in the quarter-final, with Neymar departing Russia a heavily criticised man for his theatrical antics throughout the tournament.

It was his big chance to outdo Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but he let himself down.

Now he has to shake off international disappointment and get back to work in Paris.

However, his future in France is shrouded in doubt, with Real Madrid knowingly interested in the Brazilian as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Losing him would be a huge blow for the Parisians and in response to the rumours, the Ligue 1 champions are preparing something quite outrageous to keep Neymar happy.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, PSG are preparing a world-record €270m bid for his international colleague Philippe Coutinho.

Financial Fair Play anyone?

The French club clearly are aware that Neymar isn't happy with the current squad, Edinson Cavani in particular.

The two were at each others throats last season and there were reports from Sport that PSG were looking at Luis Suarez as a potential replacement.

With Coutinho and Suarez both at Barcelona, it does make you wonder why Neymar chose to leave Catalonia.

Was escaping Messi's shadow really worth it? Probably not.

The lengths PSG are having to go to keep Neymar happy are simply ridiculous and despite his impressive stats last season, he appears to be a slight burden.

Just another reason why he will never be mentioned in the same breath as Messi and Ronaldo.
