If there's one name WWE fans are patiently waiting to see make his return, it's Dean Ambrose. For the last few weeks, the name on everyone's lips, however, is Rey Mysterio as speculation ignited claiming that he had signed a two-year deal with the WWE.

RETURN

While that still remains to be seen - although it's expected to happen - fans are hoping that The Lunatic Fringe can make a comeback soon to slot himself into the perfect storyline.

It all began after the former Shield member was spotted at the WWE Performance Center last month.

Considering he moved to Birmingham, Alabama in the build-up to WrestleMania 34 to step up his rehabilitation, the sighting was seen as a positive sign as it suggested he could be coming back sooner rather than later.

Then, Seth Rollins got into a feud with Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship.

With the Scotsman continuing to prove that the numbers game always works in their favour, fans were hopeful that Ambrose could somehow return to even the odds - as they didn't want Roman Reigns in that spot.

However, it doesn't seem like that could happen, not soon, anyway.

MISSING SUMMERSLAM

Twitter account Wrestle Votes, which has broken multiple stories in the past, has revealed what sources have told him after rumours re-ignited of Ambrose making his return soon.

According to the source, Ambrose is sadly set to miss SummerSlam but could be back in time for the Hell in a Cell in September.

They tweeted: "Getting a few questions regarding Dean Ambrose’s return lately. Can’t say for certain, but [the] source said “Not to expect him anytime before SummerSlam. September seems more likely at this point.”

Although fans will be upset that there's going to be a longer wait, other rumours suggest that big things could be on the horizon for Ambrose.

Firstly, the expectation is that he's going to turn on Rollins.

This is because that was reportedly the original plan before the injury - with Ambrose being the one that turned on The Shield instead and would set up a match with Rollins.

Along with this, other sources have indicated that WWE's backstage officials are pushing for him to return as a heel and want him thrown into the main event scene right away.

With Brock Lesnar - probably - dropping the Universal Championship before his comeback, the field would be wide open for contenders.
