Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley could make WWE history this weekend show their match at Extreme Rules on Sunday main events the pay-per-view.

The Big Dog and Lashley kicked things off on Monday Night Raw this week with a confrontation and a brawl in the middle of the ring which resulted in the locker room being sent out to split them apart.

WWE then continued to give both Lashley and Reigns airtime during the show through separate interviews, indicating that these two could be main eventing the Extreme Rules PPV this Sunday.

If Reigns and Lashley do main event the show at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, then they'll enter themselves in the WWE history books for something quite unusual.

No stipulation main event

On a show named Extreme Rules, Reigns vs Lashley would be the first-ever match in history to main event the PPV without any sort of stipulation included, according to Wrestling News.

This is quite significant when you consider that WWE constantly promotes Extreme Rules as a time when the rule book is thrown out of the window, only for their main event this year having to abide by all of them.

Perhaps WWE will change this between now and the PPV this Sunday and add a stipulation to the Reigns vs Lashley match in order to keep their streak of always having an Extreme Rules main event with a stipulation alive.

WWE has plenty of other matches on the card which they could make the main event in order to keep the streak alive too, such as the Extreme Rules Raw Women's title match, 30-minute Iron Man match for the Intercontinental title, and the Steel Cage match between Braun Strowman and Kevin Owens.

As well as this, if Reigns main events Extreme Rules, it would be his 27th PPV main event of his career, which places him at number 11 for all time PPV headliners, putting him one behind Brock Lesnar at number 10 with 28.

If The Big Dog main events this weekend's PPV, he would have main evented more PPVs than WWE legends Batista, Bret Hart, Kurt Angle and Edge.
