It’s just a matter of time before the former WWE Champion signs with the sports entertainment company.

Rey Mysterio has been officially announced as the pre-order bonus character for WWE 2K19 and is reportedly close to signing a new deal that would see him return to the WWE.

The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion understands how to get fans of sports entertainment talking.

Mysterio has had a lot of success while competing under the WWE banner, but you have to keep in mind that his exit from the company was not the greatest.

If you recall, WWE held up his contract and basically froze it due to Mysterio being out of action with injuries.

He was with the company for much longer than his contract originally called for. Mysterio is best known for his appearances with ECW, WCW, and WWE between 1995 and 2015.

He had a decorated career in his professional wrestling career as he has won WWE's World Heavyweight Title, the WWE Title, WWE Cruiserweight Title, WCW World Tag Team Title, WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Title, WWC World Junior Heavyweight Title, WWE Tag Team Title, and WWE Intercontinental Title.

As seen at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Wells Fargo Center on the WWE Network, Shinsuke Nakamura won the 2018 Royal Rumble Match by beating out John Cena, Finn Balor, and Roman Reigns in the final four. Mysterio made a surprise appearance in the match. Mysterio then worked the Greatest Royal Rumble event.

The latest update on his future with the WWE has surfaced. Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the two sides have come close to a deal but Mysterio’s commitments are all that is left to be worked out before he can make his return. The longtime pro wrestling journalist wrote the following:

“While Rey Mysterio has not signed with WWE, the discussions are close enough that they’ve talked about what commitments he has and doesn’t have left,” the report reads. “All-In is obviously a key thing.”

The expectation is that Mysterio will sign some kind of a deal, maybe in 2019 if not this year, with WWE. The deal will likely be a part-time deal, similar to the deals Chris Jericho has worked in the past. Mysterio is slated to work the upcoming All In show on September 1st in Chicago, Illinois.
