Over the next couple of weeks as WWE sets itself up for SummerSlam and beyond, the Universal Championship picture could change for the first time in over a year.
The last time the Universal title changed hands was when Brock Lesnar defeated Goldberg at WrestleMania 33. By the end of the summer though, that could all change.
Following his appearance at UFC 226, reports have stated that Lesnar will likely be dropping the Universal title soon ahead of his switch from WWE to UFC for a potential fight vs Daniel Cormier inside the Octagon.
When The Beast drops the main prize on WWE's red brand, another superstar will have to take his place as the top superstar on Monday Night Raw.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes, via Ringside News, that one superstar is 'almost a lock' to become Universal Champion, it's just a matter of when it will happen.
Monster in the Bank
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter states that this superstar is Money in the Bank winner Braun Strowman and for a very important reason.
The Monster in the Bank needs to win when he finally cashes-in his Money in the Bank opportunity whenever that may be, as a loss would do more harm to him than good.
Another loss for Strowman in a major championship match would make him lose all credibility and kill his character to a point where it would be difficult to revive.
It goes without saying that this is something WWE should avoid, and it goes without question that Braun deserves to be the Universal Champion once Lesnar departs for UFC.
Whether or not Strowman becoming Universal Champion happens at SummerSlam though remains to be seen, as WWE still seems to be going in the direction where Reigns is the one that finally dethrones The Beast.
However, having The Big Dog win at WWE's biggest party of the summer doesn't mean The Monster Among Men can't cash in his Money in the Bank opportunity afterward and take out a tired Reigns to go home with Raw's top prize.
Strowman is more than likely going to become Universal Champion. It's just a matter of when, not if. Hopefully, WWE delivers this booking sooner rather than later.
