Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic met in the main event of UFC 226 last weekend.

DC was chasing a shot at making some history - by beating the heavyweight champ to become only the second UFC fighter to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously.

And that's exactly what he achieved.

CORMIER VS MIOCIC

The light-heavyweight titleholder knocked his opponent out with seconds remaining in round one, earning him the performance of the night bonus, as well as a new belt.

But it's what happened after the fight that has caught most of the headlines.

THE AFTERMATH

Following his victory, Cormier jumped on the mic to call out Brock Lesnar, who was watching the main event cageside.

DC demanded that The Beast step inside the Octagon - and that's exactly what he did.

A little bit of trash talk and a shoving match ensued before Lesnar was escorted away from the cage.

But it's pretty clear a super fight between the pair will be made in the future, as the current WWE Universal Champion is expected to make his long-awaited UFC return.

SPARE A THOUGHT FOR STIPE

Now, while all that was kicking off on Saturday night, the defeated Miocic was stuck inside the Octagon for a fair while, watching it all unfold.

It was probably the last place he wanted to be or the last thing he wanted to see, as Cormier paraded his newly acquired belt in front of Lesnar.

It's easy to forget about Miocic in the whole situation, but DC has now actually issued his opponent an apology, as he feels bad about his actions following their fight.

CORMIER'S APOLOGY

"I kind of want to apologize to him for the f–king s–t show that was going on in the Octagon after our fight," DC told MMAWeekly on Wednesday.

"Cause it seemed like he kind of had to sit there and listen to me and Brock hollering at each other. He’s a big man and a champion for even doing that.

"I’m glad they didn’t interview him afterward cause you know that can turn out bad like with me. For him to have to sit through that, that kind of sucked and I wanted to apologize to him for that."

We should actually give Cormier props for thinking about Miocic's involvement in the situation.

It shows just how good a sportsman he actually is and the respect the two share. Perhaps other UFC fighters could learn from what been said - and the way both men have acted.
