Xherdan Shaqiri is officially a Liverpool player.

On Friday night, the Swiss international became the third new signing through the door at Anfield this summer - following in the footsteps of Naby Keita and Fabinho.

And with the transfer only costing the Reds a mere £13 million, there’s plenty to like about the deal from Liverpool’s point of view.

But were Liverpool the only club interested in Shaqiri’s services?

Well, reports last week suggested that Manchester United wanted to rival Liverpool for his signature.

Whether those reports were genuine - or whether they were manufactured by Shaqiri’s camp to get Liverpool to wrap up the deal swiftly - is unknown.

Instead, Shaqiri will line up against Jose Mourinho’s side next season.

Of course, he played against the Red Devils twice last campaign and even earned the Potters a 2-2 draw back in September.

And Man Utd fans may well remember one incident involving Shaqiri during that match.

The tricky forward faced up Eric Bailly in the corner and attempted a couple of elaborate flip-flaps to embarrasses the United defender.

But Bailly had other ideas.

He produced a no-nonsense tackle on Shaqiri, leaving him looking at the assistant referee for help.

Take a look:

Man Utd fans will be very much hoping that’s exactly what happens when Shaqiri lines up for Liverpool against Bailly.

However, Liverpool’s new signing won’t be worried about facing Bailly in the upcoming season.

SHAQIRI IS 'REALLY HAPPY' HE'S SIGNED FOR LIVERPOOL

He’s just delighted to have joined a ‘huge club’.

"As a player you always want to be on the biggest stage in football," he said.

"A few years ago I wanted to come too but it didn't happen. I'm really happy that now I'm finally here. I want to improve myself too, I want to be with the best and I want to win titles.

"It's a huge club with big history, big players and a fantastic coach. So I'm really glad and happy to be here."
