When the Los Angeles Lakers confirmed the signing of LeBron James earlier this week, they automatically inserted themselves into the NBA Championship picture for next season.

However, one of the teams they'll likely have to go through in order to win the NBA title, especially in the Western Conference, will be the current back-to-back champions, the Golden State Warriors.

Many teams have tried and failed to get through the Warriors over the past couple of seasons, with many of them replicating their style of forming a superteam.

No duplicating

However, this is not the approach which the Lakers are taking. Instead, their president of basketball operations, Magic Johnson, has stated that they're tackling the issue from a different angle alongside LeBron.

Instead of forming a superteam, Johnson and James were in agreement that adding multiple playmakers and defenders with playoff experience was a way to try and dethrone Golden State.

Magic said, via ESPN: "We have to remember the game is not the same anymore. There's no team in basketball that can duplicate Golden State.

"But what you can do is try to make sure -- Houston, they really gave Golden State problems because they had guys, multiple guys that can break the defense down. Not only shoot but also create off the dribble. And on the defensive end they were right there.

"When you think of some of the teams that had great shooting besides Golden State, all those teams really got beat.

"But then you look at a team like Boston who had, again, multiple ball handlers, guys that can put it down on the ground and get their own shot, they advanced all the way to the Eastern Conference finals.

"I watched every series and had to say, 'OK, the game is played different.' Then I talked to him -- he felt the same way, so now let's get guys that can handle the basketball, get their own shots, also are tough on defense, tough-minded.

"And that's how Rob and I decided to build the roster. So we're really happy with the additions that we have and LeBron is really happy."

The Lakers have already made progress towards that goal after signing LeBron, as they have added Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee to a strong young core of Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Whether or not this will be good enough to dethrone the superteam of the Warriors though remains to be seen.
