Dejan Lovren is set to take part in a World Cup final on Sunday. The Croatian defender has been a rock at the back but will come up against French forwards Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann in Moscow.Signed in 2014, Lovren has had his ups and downs during his time at Liverpool. But Liverpool fans have witnessed huge improvements since the £75m January arrival of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton. They've formed an excellent partnership at the back and Lovren's confidence was through the roof after helping his team to a 2-1 win over England on Wednesday.”It’s something special for me,” said Lovren to beIN Sports. “From my point of view, people were saying I had a difficult season but I don’t agree with that.”I showed that I took Liverpool to the Champions League final and now with my national team we are in the final.

”I think people should recognise that I’m one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense.”

Jurgen Klopp responds

Liverpool drew 0-0 with Bury on a pre-season friendly on Saturday and, speaking to reporters after the game, Jurgen Klopp was asked to comment on Lovren's emphatic statement.

Watch Klopp's response below - it had the reporters cracking up.

“It would be better if someone else said that and not Dejan," said the German manager. "But actually he is right.”

Klopp did not disagree with Lovren but suggested that the Croatian defender shouldn't be saying these things himself.

After victory over England, Lovren revealed that Klopp has got in touch to congratulate him.

"He's [Klopp] proud of me and what I've achieved," said Lovren, as per The Mirror. "He knows what I went through. He's a good man. Even in tough times he was always backing me up. I appreciated that.

"I am a little bit disappointed for my team-mate [Jordan Henderson] because he also deserved to be in the final. I wish we could both be in the final for that game but there is only one winner."

The world will be watching when Lovren faces France in the final on Sunday.
