Pre-season was always going to be challenging for Loris Karius after what happened in May’s Champions League final. Those two catastrophic mistakes in Kiev will still cross the Liverpool goalkeeper’s mind on a daily basis and getting back in the saddle can’t have been easy.Prior to Liverpool’s third pre-season friendly against Bury on Saturday, it was patently clear that Karius’s confidence levels were still very low.He made a silly gaffe in the warm-up before the Reds’ 7-0 win over Chester last weekend and then cost his team a goal in the 3-2 win over Tranmere Rovers last Tuesday evening.“Loris concedes that goal, but we cannot start a story always after each mistake,” Jurgen Klopp said after the Tranmere game. "Mistakes will happen; I don’t like it, he doesn’t like it, but it will happen, so let’s carry on and make the best of all these situations by learning from them. That’s how it is.”With Liverpool struggling to sign a new number one ‘keeper this summer, Klopp handed Karius another chance to rebuild his confidence at Gigg Lane on Saturday. He was on the pitch for 62 minutes before being subbed off for Kamil Grabara and, crucially, didn’t concede a goal.

Footage shows how Liverpool fans treated Karius

In fact, no goals were scored by either side over the course of the 90 minutes.

However, there were reports from a few people inside the stadium that Karius was being jeered by Liverpool fans every time he touched the ball during the first half.

Others inside Gigg Lane, however, believed the booing was coming from the Bury supporters.

Footage has now emerged, though, which shows Liverpool fans making their feelings very clear towards Karius - and you can watch it here…

A touch of class from Liverpool fans

As you can see, Karius received a warm standing ovation from the travelling Liverpool fans as he made his way to his goal for the start of the second half.

That’s brilliant to see.

Karius needs the support of the Liverpool fans to help him rediscover his form and confidence and this must have meant the world to him.

He went on to repay their support by keeping a clean sheet - and will now be hoping to build on that over the coming weeks.
