It's been an interesting preseason for Luke Shaw so far.
After being omitted from Gareth Southgate's England squad - which was to be expected - the left-back appears to have been working hard at Manchester United.
In fact, fans were praising the former Southampton man for his impressive physique which he displayed in one of his Instagram posts.
His fitness has often been questioned, so it was a welcome surprise.
Nevertheless, there have been no reports that Jose Mourinho will offer him a lifeline in 2018/19, with the Portuguese knowingly in the market for a new left-back.
Juventus' Alex Sandro is the primary target and it is thought that the Brazilian has already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils.
However, they will have to get Shaw off the books in order to bring him in and that is proving to be more difficult than expected.
In a report by Duncan Castles for The Times, the journalist states that Shaw has no intention to leave Old Trafford this summer.
The journalist reports that Everton offered him a lifeline this season, one which looks so appealing given Shaw's current predicament.
Leighton Baines is nearing the end of his career, so Shaw would likely have been the first-choice left-back under exciting new manager Marco Silva.
But the Englishman wants to see out the last year of his contract with United regardless if he is getting regular first-team football.
It's a brave move, one which certain United fans may applaud given that he is not taking the easy way out.
If Mourinho hands him a start and he performs, the the risk has paid off.
But some United fans may see it as Shaw simply blocking a move for Sandro, which Castles reports is the case right now.
Despite Daley Blind close to being moved on to Ajax for €16m, Shaw staying would likely mean no move for Sandro.
