While there might have been some negativity towards their feud, Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley finally stepped it up when it mattered the most.

Heading into Extreme Rules, the feud between The Big Dog and The Dominator had quietly been bubbling away as the two alpha males of Monday Night RAW tried to outdo the other to determine who would be the bigger threat to Brock Lesnar.

BRAWL

While Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson of The Revival proved to be a thorn in their side for several weeks, Reigns and Lashley finally got their hands on each other during an epic brawl to kick off RAW earlier this week.

It's precisely what their feud needed, and it's why many believe their contest at Extreme Rules doesn't even need a stipulation - it's merely about finding who the better man is.

Although it hasn't been confirmed on television, it's thought that the winner of this match will go on to battle Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship - potentially at SummerSlam.

That came after the multi-man match was scrapped, courtesy of Vince McMahon.

Shortly after the brawl, it was revealed that Paul Heyman was responsible for putting this segment together, and it's why it went down as a big success.

Although it was initially claimed that he was working as a 'road agent,' the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided more details on Heyman's involvement.

LESNAR PROGRAMME

According to Rajah, the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that Heyman is not actually on the writing team.

Instead, he was in Boston - where RAW was taking place - and helped put together the face to face, the brawl and the Lashley interview.

The reason he was brought in to specifically look over the Lashley and Reigns segments is because WWE uses him for virtually every segment that will lead to a programme with The Beast.

With the winner expected to face Lesnar, it makes sense.

They noted that Heyman did the exact same thing when Goldberg was in WWE last, where he did the same sort of work for his segments while also helping write all of Goldberg's interviews.

It's clear that WWE isn't going to throw Lesnar into just any feud.

It needs to be both believable and intriguing enough to get the fans invested, and nobody knows how to book Lesnar better than the man who has been by his side since the day he arrived on the main roster.
