The Cleveland Cavaliers have finally made their first offseason move since the departure of LeBron James.

A familiar face will be returning to the franchise as they've agreed to bring back Channing Frye.

The veteran has signed a one-year, $2.4 million contract for a second stint in Cleveland, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

Running it back

The 35-year-old spent two years in Ohio and was part of the historic championship-winning team in 2016.

He was a popular figure in the locker room and became a fans' favourite with his bubbly personality.

But the Cavaliers offloaded the big man in February as part of their huge roster overhaul, trading him to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Just five months later, however, they've chosen to reunite with him and in typical Frye fashion, he had a great message for Cavs fans on his Instagram page.

"Well I guess this is hello again," he posted with a picture of himself in a Cleveland uniform.

There's one man on the team's roster who's particularly happy to see Frye back.

Kevin Love shared his excitement with a brilliant post on Instagram, putting up a photoshopped image of Frye on LeBron's Sports Illustrated article from 2014 when he decided to return to his hometown franchise.

The pair developed a close friendship during their two years together as teammates and this reunion will make it slightly easier for Love to get over the departure of James, at least off the court.

Frye averaged 7.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game during his time with the Cavaliers.

He became one of the team's most reliable three-point shooters, hitting 39 percent from beyond the arc.

The center fit perfectly alongside LeBron and played his part in their famous title win.

But his return will come as a surprise and it's difficult to see the thinking behind this signing.

With the King leaving once again, it would've made more sense for the franchise to focus on bringing in younger players for the future.

The addition of Frye will certainly benefit the locker room, though, as he's a fun character and is often described as a great teammate.

Ultimately, he knows the team and coaching staff well and won't need time to settle in and adjust.

The Cavs are expected to make further moves this offseason with restricted free agent Rodney Hood potentially re-signing on a long-term deal.

Their superstar may have left, but Cleveland seems to be in a better position to deal with his loss this time compared to 2010.
