Arsenal have started life under Unai Emery rather impressively.Ok, the Gunners were only playing Boreham Wood in a friendly on Saturday but running out 8-0 winners would have pleased the new boss.Emery’s side were 5-0 ahead at half-time - hardly surprising given the strong side that was on show. The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, new signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Hector Bellerin as well as youngsters Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Emile Smith-Rowe and Reiss Nelson all played the opening 45 minutes before Emery fielded an entirely different XI in the second-half.A 17-minute hat-trick by Aubameyang got Arsenal going before two further goals by Nelson and Lacazette. Those 11 players that started probably thought they could sit on the bench and watch the second half in the sunshine. However, Emery had other plans.According to football.london, Emery ordered the players that started the match to return to the London Colney training ground.

The report says: “One may have thought those who played would have been given the rest of the day off in order to recover and prepare for another week of training next week.

“Well, that wasn't the case as there was another training session at London Colney in store.

“Football.london understands that the players featured in the first-half left the pitch and got straight on the coach to go training ground - which explains why they weren't on the bench for the second period - for a light session.”

Brutal.

It suggests just how Emery is approaching this pre-season as he attempts to stamp his authority on this new side.

It certainly sounds different to how Wenger did things…
