Rumours of teams breaking up in the WWE is nothing new.

One month Rusev Day were dominating the headlines, and then the focus switched to the New Day.

BREAK UP OR PUSH?

In the case of the New Day, it was revealed that WWE has big plans for one star in particular - Big E.

It's easy to see why. His microphone work is incredible, he has a great look and he's a solid in-ring worker.

However, he was overlooked by WWE during the Money in the Bank ladder match in favour of Kofi Kingston, but the speculated push didn't end as he was then featured in a gauntlet match.

At the moment, nobody really knows what the future plans are for Kofi, Big E and Xavier Woods as they're currently embroiled in a feud with SAnitY.

However, when Kofi was speaking to Sports Illustrated, he revealed that he doesn't want the trio to break up, but instead, he's planning on the New Day holding a singles title under the Freebird rule.

FREEBIRD

According to Ringside News, he said: "All of us want to be top-tier singles champions. That’s the goal all the time.

"Now a lot of people think you have to break up to do that. We’re told, ‘You know, you have to go your separate ways.’ I think that’s the dumbest thing in the world. Why would we ever break up?

"We are stronger as three than we are as one. There is no need for us to break up.

"We always talk about having the ‘Freebird Rule,’ or now the ‘New Day Rule,’ as singles champions or even with the Money in the Bank briefcase. That would be awesome, too. We bring a different element and aspect to the potential of what a singles championship run could possibly be.

"Our bread and butter is in our chemistry. We’ve all done singles careers on our own, and it’s a c***shoot whether you’ll go up or go down.

"You never know. But we feel like we have something very special between the three of us, so there is no need to go back to doing what we were doing.”

The trio holding a singles title would certainly add a different element on SmackDown LIVE.

Rather than breaking up the talented group for the sake of simply pushing one, it could be a worthwhile experiment for WWE to try and see how it works - with all three collectively holding a title.
