Paul Pogba hasn’t enjoyed the best season at club level, but he’s just experienced what will unquestionably be the greatest day of his entire career. The 25-year-old is now a world champion after helping France defeat Croatia 4-2 in Sunday’s final.Pogba scored France’s third goal of the afternoon on the hour-mark, beautifully curling the ball beyond Danijel Subasic from outside the penalty area.In the process, Pogba became the first ever Manchester United player to score in a World Cup final. He also becomes the first Premier League player to score in a World Cup final since Emmanuel Petit back in 1998.United fans, who have defended Pogba on numerous occasions since the midfielder returned to Old Trafford from Juventus in the summer of 2016, are understandably delighted for him.Pogba has been accused of failing to justify his £89.3 million transfer fee over the past couple of years but the Old Trafford faithful have stuck by him through thick and thin.

What Souness said about Pogba before the WC final

One of his biggest critics has been the former Liverpool player and manager, Graeme Souness, who works for Sky Sports.

The 65-year-old has made no secret of the fact he’s not Pogba’s biggest fan and, at times, the criticism from the Scot has been way over the top.

Despite the fact Pogba has enjoyed an excellent World Cup, Souness still found reasons to have a pop at the Frenchman hours before the final got underway.

Speaking on beIN Sports, he said of Pogba: "His game management is very, very poor... the boy needs help!"

He also said: "He's indisciplined and that's the kindest word I can say about him."

United fans show no mercy on Souness

Now, as you can imagine, United fans on social media have shown no mercy on Souness after Pogba scored his World Cup final goal - and who can blame them?

They’ve been ripping into the outspoken pundit and making it clear that Pogba has made him look clueless.

Even Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher joined in, posting a funny old photo of Souness alongside the caption: “Souey when he see’s Pogba has scored!”

Let’s just hope Souness is man enough to hold his hands up and accept Pogba has been outstanding over the past four weeks - and is clearly a world-class midfielder.
