The 2018 World Cup ended on Sunday as France beat Croatia 4-2 in Moscow to win the competition for the second time.Mario Madzukic's controversial own goal put them ahead and, after Ivan Perisic equalised, Didier Deschamps' men ran away with the match.Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba all got on the scoresheet to put gloss on great tournaments for each of them, but they weren't the only stars.Raphael Varane was a colossus at the back for France in Russia, and his Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric also enjoyed a simply phenomenal campaign.Los Blancos had players on both sides of the World Cup final, and after watching the game, they posted lovely tweets to both Varane and Modric.

Not all disappointment for Modric

Modric was desperate to lead Croatia to World Cup glory, and while things ended in the ultimate disappointment for the 32-year-old, there was one individual positive.

Following the final, the midfield maestro won the Golden Ball award for being the best player at the tournament, and few can argue with that decision.

Real Madrid tweet Varane and Modric

Having seen Varane win the number one prize in football, Spanish giants Real took to Twitter to send their central defender a beautiful message.

As you can see below, the tweet showcased the immense pride the club feels at the 25-year-old's development and seeing him win the World Cup.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho brought a then-teenage Varane to the Bernabeu way back in 2011 from Lens for around €10 million.

In classy fashion, Madrid took the time to address Modric's heartbreak, as well as fellow Croat Mateo Kovacic, who was an unused substitute against France.

Real's tweet, shown below, praised the Croatia captain and his teammate for representing such a small nation with massive amounts of fight.

Modric and Varane in Russia

Modric scored twice, provided one assist and went through three gruelling extra-time periods at the 2018 World Cup, with his class, technique and quality shining through.

Meanwhile, Varane started all seven of France's matches having missed Euro 2016 through injury and even scored a goal in the quarter-final win over Uruguay.

The Champions League holders will certainly want both Varane and Modric to be as outstanding as they were in Russia in the upcoming season.
