Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles is planning his final flight.

The 35-year-old announced on his personal blog that the 2018 season will be his last in the NFL.

Entering his 14th professional season, Sproles inked a one-year contract with the Eagles this spring, including a $400,000 signing bonus and $1,000,000 guaranteed.

"I'm excited to come back and I am even more excited to come back to the defending Super Bowl champion, Eagles," Sproles said in a statement. "We have something special here with the team, the fans, and the city. We made history bringing the first Lombardi trophy to Philly and now we want to go back-to-back."

The versatile Sproles is sitting eighth on the NFL career all-purpose yards list (19,164 yards), and said his goal is to move up to fifth on that prestigious list to surpass Tim Brown (19,682 yards). If he can achieve this goal, only Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Brian Mitchell and Jerry Rice would have more yards.

"Yeah, it would be an honor to be mentioned in the same conversation as those guys - but that’s not what’s important," Sproles added. "I love this game. I love what I do."

Sproles initially planned to retire following the 2017 season, but suffered a broken arm and torn ACL on the same play in Philadelphia's Week 3 victory over the New York Giants. Clearly, he didn't want to end his illustrious career on a sour note.

Standing just 5-foot-6 inches tall, Sproles has defied the odds his entire NFL career with his blazing speed and juking ability. These skills allowed him to excel in the running, passing and return games.

Sproles, a three-time Pro Bowler, was selected in the fourth round by the San Diego Chargers in 2005, and also spent time with the New Orleans Saints. He has 52 career offensive touchdowns and nine career return touchdowns.

He will likely slot behind running backs Corey Clement and Jay Ajayi on the depth chart this season.
