France have won the World Cup for the second time.Didier Deschamps became only the third man to lead a side to the trophy as both a player and a manager, with his side beating Croatia 4-2 in Moscow.Les Bleus came into the tournament as third favourites behind Germany and Brazil, but leave Russia as the best international side on the planet. It's a certainty that they'll be favourites for both Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup, given how young their squad is.One man who may have endured his last stand with France in the Luzhniki Stadium was 31-year-old striker Olivier Giroud. The Chelsea man may not have mustered a strike on target all tournament, but his selfless attitude and hold-up play was pivotal to their success.Any true football fan knows that without Giroud, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe would have struggled a lot more - just look at the game v Australia when Giroud was on the bench. And the Frenchman was spotted by journalists in the stadium doing something which optimises his humble attitude towards the game.Giroud, Adil Rami, Samuel Umtiti and Blaise Matuidi were all running around the pitch with French flags and accidentally crossed the halfway line to the Croatian side. When they realised what they had done, they all instantly apologised, with Giroud and Rami then bowing and applauding the supporters.

A real touch of class.

This is likely to be Giroud's last major tournament and the striker admitted after the game that he can see this French generation dominating the international scene.

“There are only five of us in the squad that are over 30-years-old," he told the Standard. "We have an amazing generation with young talented players, that’s why we can have a lot of hope of winning more in the future.

“One thing is sure if we keep this mentality with our quality, we will be very competitive and very hard to beat.”
