France are world champions but there is one player that everyone seems to be talking about on social media - N’Golo Kante.Footage has emerged of Kante reportedly being ‘too shy’ to ask his teammates to get his hands on the World Cup trophy during on-pitch celebrations. It meant Steven N’zonzi had to take it upon himself to get the trophy for Kante so he could have some pictures with it in front of the world’s media. It just summed up Kante as a human. Shy, humble and totally unaffected despite being a world-class footballer. And it seems his teammates love him for it.On the team coach back from the stadium to their hotel, they sang a chant for Kante which went like this: “N'golo Kante, he's short, he's handsome, he's the one who stopped Messi, N'golo Kante!"Kante appeared totally embarrassed by all the attention.

During the final, though, Kante didn’t play to his usual standards.

The Chelsea midfielder gave away the free-kick which led to Croatia’s equaliser in the first-half, picking up a booking for his tackle on Ivan Perisic.

Within 10 minutes of the second-half, Didier Deschamps brought N’Zonzi on in his place with France having a 2-1 lead.

Ten minutes later, France were 4-1 ahead.

French newspaper, L’Equipe, gave Kante a rather harsh 3/10 for his poor performance.

Ouch.

But there’s a very good reason for his disasterclass.

According to Le Parisien, Kante - who they rated 5/10 themselves - was actually suffering from gastroenteritis during the World Cup final.

No wonder he wasn’t feeling particularly lively both during the match and afterward.
