Cristiano Ronaldo was officially unveiled as a Juventus player today.

Watching the Portuguese superstar in the famous black and white of Juve will take some getting used to, but there is no doubting that the Italian club have pulled off a massive coup in securing his signature.

Ronaldo will be tasked with bringing European glory back to Turin after so many near misses in the last few years.

And, should he manage the kind of form that saw him become one of the greatest players to have played for both Manchester United and Real Madrid, he might just prove that he truly is the greatest footballer of all time.

The debate over Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has been raging for years, with each man constantly giving us new and unbelievable reasons to believe they are the best.

However, in the last few years, Ronaldo has probably inched ahead, claiming his fifth Balon d’Or, winning the European championships in 2016 and helping Real Madrid to a staggering three consecutive Champions League titles.

Both men endured a difficult World Cup sadly, crashing out of the Russian showpiece in the last-16 on the very same day.

But now, with Messi having only ever plied his trade in La Liga, Ronaldo will be looking to prove that he can do the business in yet another of Europe’s top leagues.

Speaking at his unveiling, Ronaldo was asked about his rivalry with Messi and the Portuguese skipper gave an interesting response.

“I don’t have rivalries with players, I never had. That’s not part of my ethics. It was a good challenge with Messi. All of you liked it and it was interesting. But I never saw it as a rivalry.”

Well there you have it - no rivalry at all.

There is no doubting the fact that La Liga will miss the Messi v Ronaldo battle, especially on those famous El Classico nights but perhaps the two will meet again at some point in the Champions League soon.

Just imagine if the next time they face up to each other is in the European final - there might just be some rivalry then.
