Despite suffering disappointment in Russia this summer, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are widely regarded as two of the greatest footballers of all-time.

Ronaldo, 33, moved from Real Madrid to Juventus last week after winning three consecutive Champions League trophies under Zinedine Zidane.

"To come to this club at this stage of my career, I am very happy," he said at his presentation in Turin on Monday afternoon, as per the BBC.

"I am different from all the other players who think that their career is over at my age, but I want to show the others that I am different. It is very emotional for me at the club now because I am not 23, I am 33."

Both in their thirties, Ronaldo and Messi are sadly entering the twilight years of their career.

The debate about who is better looks unlikely to ever end.

New DC United signing Wayne Rooney spent six years playing alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United.

The attacking duo formed an incredible partnership before the Portuguese winger quit Old Trafford for Real Madrid in 2009.

Speaking on an American radio show on Monday, Rooney was asked who is better out of Ronaldo and Messi.

And he didn't skip a beat.

"Messi", Rooney instantly replied to the interviewer's surprise.

"They're probably the best two players to ever play the game and I just think Messi is, in my eyes, the greatest ever."

Rooney might not be getting a Christmas card from his former colleague this year.

Another of Ronaldo's old Man United teammates, Ryan Giggs, believes the 33-year-old is "obsessed" with being considered better than Messi.

"Cristiano is obsessed with beating Messi," Giggs told ITV after Ronaldo joined Juventus.

"Now he has the argument of having won in England, Spain and with Portugal, so he wants to say 'I'll do it in Italy as well.'

"He can use it in his favour in the argument of who is better between them."

Ronaldo has won five Ballon d'Or awards in his career and racked up 450 goals for Real Madrid to become the club's all-time record goalscorer.
