Daley Blind’s return to Ajax moved closer on Monday night as Manchester United agreed terms with the Dutch club.

The 28-year-old Holland international swapped the Amsterdam giants for Old Trafford four years ago in a £14million deal.

Blind made 141 appearances for United over that period, but only played seven Premier League matches last term for Jose Mourinho’s side.

And, he is now set to head home, with United writing on Twitter: “#MUFC has agreed terms with Ajax for the transfer of @BlindDaley. A further announcement will be made in due course.”

A deal worth an initial 16million euros (£14.1m) is understood to have been agreed. Add-ons could see the fee rise to 21million euros (£18.5m).

The Dutch side have already signed Southampton’s Dusan Tadic this summer and landed in England for a pre-season training camp on Saturday.

Blind would be United’s first high-profile sale of the summer, although captain Michael Carrick retired and joined Mourinho’s coaching staff.

Highly-rated Porto full-back Diogo Dalot, Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazil international Fred and veteran Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant have all joined United this summer.

After finishing second in the Premier League and losing in the final of the FA Cup to Antonio Conte's Chelsea, Mourinho will be looking for a more fruitful campaign at Old Trafford this time around.

However, with Manchester City so strong last season, Liverpool spending wisely in the transfer window, and both Arsenal and Chelsea welcoming new managers, it could be an even tougher task this time around.

The Gunners will be led by Unai Emery after Arsene Wenger decided to step down at the end of last season, whilst Chelsea will be under the guidance of former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri after Conte left last week.

Sarri also brought with him Jorginho, who will strengthen the Blues' midfield.

So it's the end for Blind at Old Trafford, but one thing is for sure, he won't be the last out the door this summer.
