Ever since Daniel Bryan was cleared to make his in-ring WWE return, his future with the company has been up in the air. For over two years before March 2018, The Beard was sidelined - unable to fulfill his wrestling dream.

ON-SCREEN ROLE

Now, despite not actually performing in the ring, Bryan was still regularly featuring on TV, working as the SmackDown Live General Manager.

But as time went on, he grew closer to a return - and the feeling was that if WWE didn't let him wrestle, another promotion would.

So, in order to keep one of his top stars happy, Vince McMahon reluctantly cleared DB to make his injury comeback, a few weeks before WrestleMania.

SIGNING A NEW DEAL WITH WWE?

Arguably, Bryan has got exactly what he's been asking for from WWE - another shot at his dream.

Therefore, when his current contract expires in September, many are expecting him to re-sign with McMahon's promotion.

After all, he has no need to seek a deal with any other promotion now he's back in the ring.

In fact, last week, reports started emerging - which suggested that Bryan has already agreed to re-sign with WWE.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com tweeted on Sunday night, ahead of Extreme Rules, that a reliable source had informed him that DB and WWE had reached a deal.

However, according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, it may not be as simple as that.

NO DEAL AGREED

Meltzer took to Twitter himself to deny those reports from Sapp, claiming that Bryan has not signed a new contract yet and that nothing has changed.

Now, that is disappointing - and if he's right, DB's deal will still expire on September 1.

HINTING AT SIGNING

Despite nothing being officially confirmed, it does appear that WWE are confident Bryan will eventually sign a new contract.

They've already booked him for a number of shows past September, including one in December - at Madison Square Garden.

Now, that's three months after Byran's current contract runs down, so advertising him for a show that far down the line can't just be a mistake.

Fans will just be hoping that booking him so far in advance won't come back to bite WWE.
