For a boxer, it often isn't as simple as looking to the next bout.

There is likely to be a strategy in place that will see them reach their main goal.

The best fighters don't just do their best work in the ring, they are likely to have a sense of business acumen which sees them get the best deal for themselves.

Floyd Mayweather is the master of this practice, but his long-time nemesis Manny Pacquiao is not far behind.

The 39-year-old achieved his first knockout in nine years at the weekend against Lucas Matthysse which was his 60th win from 69 fights and saw him reclaim the WBA Welterweight belt - his 11th world title in what has certainly been a stellar career.

While many will be satisfied to move on to the next phase of their lives, Pacquiao, who is a senator in the Philippines, is looking for a way to fight his main rival once more.

The Daily Mail reports that a plan is in the works which involves taking on Amir Khan which he hopes will make Mayweather interested in a multi-million dollar rematch and a way to find some redemptions after losing to the American in a unanimous points decision in 2015.

For his part, Khan is believed to be very keen in taking on 'The Pacman' in what would easily be the biggest fight in his career.

The main issue is that both their promoters are not too keen on the proposal.

Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum would like his man to take on the likes of Terrance Crawford or Vasyl Lomachenko, while Eddie Hearn believes Khan will be better served taking on a fellow British fighter such as Kell Brook which he says will earn him even more money in the long run.

However, the other side of the coin is that if both fighters go down the route that their promoters suggest, a defeat will almost certainly see the end of their career.

Both men clearly believe they have unfinished business in the sport and time will tell if they can achieve their ultimate goal.
