It hasn't been the best of weekends for Matt and Jeff Hardy based on what happened at Extreme Rules. For Jeff, it took less than five seconds for Shinsuke Nakamura to snatch the United States Championship from him.

TOUGH WEEKEND

While the referee had his back turned, The King of Strong Style hit a vicious low blow followed by a Kinshasa to be crowned the new champion.

Then, Randy Orton returned to rub salt in the wounds by attacking the Charismatic Enigma.

For Matt, he and Bray Wyatt were unable to keep hold of the RAW Tag Team Championships as they surprisingly dropped the gold to The B Team at Extreme Rules.

Following the event, Matt posted a cryptic tweet which initially suggested that The Deleters of Worlds could be heaving for a break-up after joining forces at WrestleMania 34.

However, Matt provided a little more context on Monday which has thrown the future of The Hardys up in the air, and fans are understandably worried.

FUTURE

Instead of any reference to Wyatt, it's simply an image of Matt and Jeff - in black and white - walking alone behind the scenes.

Naturally, fans are jumping to conclusions as they wonder what this could mean.

Some are remaining optimistic and believe Matt could be throwing fans off and might make the jump to the blue brand with Jeff, potentially, out with an injury.

Others believe the two could be leaving WWE while some have even stated that retirement might be on the horizon.

Although it could very well be part of the storyline, the fact that Matt's wife - Reby Sky - also got involved has many believing that an exit of some sort could be the real direction.

Again, some fans are sceptical and think it could very well be a work or feature a swerve of some sort.

Others, however, are claiming that The Hardys would be better off without the WWE as they believe the company has watered-down the entertaining Woken gimmick.

While that might be the case, the fact WWE has used it at all is more than what many would have hoped for.

With Jeff reportedly expected to take time off to undergo surgery and recovery, their immediate future is certainly going to remain under the microscope.
