It was supposed to be a press conference to celebrate the launch of Eddie Hearn's record-breaking deal with streaming giant DAZN, but the main talking point from Tuesday's media gathering in New York turned out to be the on-stage clash between Anthony Joshua and American heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller.

The unbeaten Miller (21-0-1, 18 KOs) stormed on-stage to hijack a face-off between Joshua and his next opponent Alexander Povetkin and immediately squared up to the unified heavyweight champion.

The pair went on to have a heated verbal exchange - before having to be physically separated.

"Big Baby" was not short of words after the incident either.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 30-year-old revealed exactly what he had said to "AJ" during their encounter.

"I walked up on him, and whispered behind him: 'you're a punk, let's make it happen'," said Miller - who lacked little in the way of confidence when it came to his prediction as to how a fight between himself and Joshua would end.

"I'm not Dominic Breazeale, man. I want it. I would whoop him at Wembley."

Miller had, earlier this year, been touted as a potential opponent for Joshua in what was to have been the Londoner's US debut.

Those plans were shelved, however, when Joshua committed to fighting at Wembley Stadium in his next two bouts.

Instead, Miller will return to the ring as part of the inaugural US DAZN card in Chicago on October 6.

That bill will be screened live in the UK - and Miller seems intent on using the platform to leave a lasting impression on the British boxing public.

"Listen Britain - you've seen fake models. You'll see the real model, the people's champ, not the one-time English champ. The world champ - that's me."

Now that Miller has officially partnered with Eddie Hearn and DAZN, the path to a shot at Anthony Joshua is certainly smoother than it had been previously.

There are, though, still significant barriers to that fight becoming a reality. Fans will be clamouring for Joshua to finally meet Deontay Wilder should he successfully defeat Povetkin on September 22 - and that certainly seems to be the direction in which Joshua wants to go.

However, Jarrell Miller should be credited for seizing the opportunity to build his own case for a championship opportunity.

As difficult as negotiations have proved for the Joshua vs Wilder fight thus far, Miller may yet still get his chance.
