Tottenham have turned their attention to Liverpool’s Ryan Babel after missing out on a host of top class strikers, according to reports.

Spurs are keen to bolster their striking ranks, with the imminent departure of Robbie Keane, who has emerged as a surprise target for Turkish club Besiktas.

Luis Fabiano has been touted around a lot, but the Brazilian has recently signed a new two-year deal with Spanish side Sevilla yesterday, while Klass-Jan Huntelaar has completed a £10.6 million move to Bundesliga club Schalke.

Guiseppe Rossi and Emmanuel Adebayor were also targets but Villarreal and Manchester City respectively have ruled out those sales.

That has paved the way for Redknapp to move for Babel, who he wants to sign on loan with a view to a permanent transfer next summer.

However, a lot will depend on whether Roy Hodgson can bring a replacement to Anfield before the end of the transfer window at 6pm today.

Mario Gomez and Carlton Cole are both reported targets, although the former’s club have ruled out his exit.

Furthermore, Liverpool are likely to prefer a permanent transfer for Babel, and want to re-coup as much of the £11.5 million they paid Ajax as possible.
